With the time-crunched pace of the holiday season and all the details that occupy your brain, the last thing you need to worry about is your hair. And yet, once party invitations start rolling in, you may do just that. So we asked hairstylist Kate Bryan to come up with a solution: styles that take little time and effort but work for any special occasion, holiday or otherwise. “It’s great to have at least one of these in your arsenal,” says Bryan, 27, the creator of the widely read Small Things Blog. “They are a little more formal than something you may ordinarily do, but you can still pull them together quickly.” In fact, says Bryan, one ’do requires less than 10 minutes. (Bryan knows all about having too much to do and not enough time to get everything done: In addition to styling clients and writing The Small Things Blog, she has worked on beauty campaigns with Almay. And—most exciting of all—she is expecting her first child, due over the holidays.)Here, Bryan models—and walks through, step by step—a trio of styles, all of which work best for hair that falls anywhere from the collarbone to the middle of the back (though one, the Glam Ponytail, can be adapted for shorter hair). “My goal here and in my blog is that women feel confident about styling their hair themselves,” says Bryan. “They know it will turn out well because they’ve followed the steps and watched the video. And once they are done, they don’t have to worry about their hair for the rest of the night.”See pretty party hairstyles and bridal hairstyles created exclusively for Real Simple by Kate Bryan.
