And it's also really stylish.

SCOTTeVEST

I love a trip to the beach, but I dread trudging through the hot sand with a giant bag, plus a folding beach chair and a towel. Let the sweating begin!

This summer has been different. A friend told me about a company called SCOTTeVEST that sells clothes with a million pockets. At first, I had bad flashbacks to those cargo shorts of yore, but when I tried the Featherweight Vest ($140, scottevest.com) with its 16 pockets, I quickly discovered it could hold what I needed without ever looking bulky.

There’s a pocket for a water bottle, a pocket for your billfold, your sunglasses, your sunscreen, and a pocket with a built-in clip so you don’t lose your keys in the sand. That still leaves 11 more pockets for whatever else you need.

If you’re thinking, “Wait, $140 is a lot for a beach bag replacement,” know that it’s great for travel, too. With the vest, you eliminate the stress of keeping track of your handbag at the airport or in crowds in unfamiliar cities. There is room for a paperback book, ear buds, a sleep mask, tissues, even post-flight makeup items. It’s also machine washable, but if you’re on the go, you can easily wash it in a hotel sink and it dries overnight.

Another use: I recently wore it hiking on a hot day, and it felt freeing to ditch my usual backpack—I stuffed energy bars for the whole family in those many pockets, and I didn’t look like the Michelin Man.

Finally, if you’ve got an upcoming high school reunion trip—there’s a pocket that looks like it could easily hold a flask.
