The Comfortable (and Affordable!) Shoes Serena Williams Changed Into on Her Wedding Day
You should “just do it” and buy them, too.
Serena Williams’s fairy tale wedding had an oh-so-comfortable ending, thanks to a pair of Nike sneakers. On November 16, the tennis star tied the knot with Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian. The couple’s Beauty and the Beast-themed nuptials, complete with a choreographed first dance to “Tale As Old As Time,” evolved into an epic dance party.
Before taking the stage with Ohanian and New Edition for another dance routine, the sports icon reached for a crystal-encrusted pair of Nike Classic Cortez shoes, according to Vogue.com. And while it’s unclear what Williams's sparkly pair costs, the original shoe is now available online for $115. The Nike Cortez Nylon Women’s Shoe is considered “Nike’s original running shoe,” and features suede details and a foam sole cushion—ideal for boogying on the dance floor.
The shoe change can be seen in two of several Instagram posts shared by the gushing groom, who also shared a sweet message to his bride (and 207,000+ followers).
“You are the greatest of all time, not just in sport—I’m talking about as a mother and as a wife,” Ohanian captioned a photo of their first kiss as husband and wife, later adding, “And everything that I have done, everything that I am so proud of in my career, and in my life, for the last 34 years, pales in comparison to what we’re doing today.”
