With Amazon Prime’s offering unbeatable prices, many standard retailers like Target and Walmart have started to offer price matching to stay competitive. And now high-end department stores are getting in the game in hopes of keeping their customers from being wooed away by Amazon’s new luxury beauty and fashion offerings. In fact, just earlier this month Lord and Taylor put a new price-matching policy in effect.
Lord & Taylor confirmed to RealSimple.com in an e-mail that they will now price match any lower advertised price on Amazon, as well as other US-based department stores such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, or Neiman Marcus. The item must be in-stock at the competitor in the same color and size as the one being purchased at Lord & Taylor. Additionally, a lower price can only be matched if the promotion is currently running and valid at another store.

In order to take advantage of price matching, customers should approach an associate in-store with proof of the competitor’s sale pricing, via their website or other marketing material (thankfully for smartphones, you don’t have to bring a printout!) Price matching out of store is a little trickier, however, since you will need to call customer service (1-800-223-7440) and provide the agent with a link where they can verify the competitor’s lower price.
There’s an exciting perk to asking for a price match in store, too: according to a Lord & Taylor representative, customers who request a price match in-store will receive a rose and thank you note from the store’s staff as a thanks for coming in and being a loyal customer. Talk about above and beyond customer service!

Though many other luxury department stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Nordstrom offer price matching for their direct competitor’s pricing, Lord & Taylor is the first we know of that has specifically mentioned price-matching Amazon in their policies—but we wouldn’t be surprised if that changed very soon.
