Finding a good (as in soft, slightly stretchy, yet still structured) pair of jeans can be a tall order (sometimes quite literally). The good news is that many traditional—and some non-traditional—brands are upping their denim game, with a range of designs, crops, and inseams designed for different body shapes and preferences. From butt-boosting skinnies to modernly-retro bootcuts (and plenty of sophisticated straight-legs along the way), read on for the most fashionable (and flattering!) pairs that will help you power-walk through fall.

$70, levis.com

It would be difficult to imagine a denim world without Levi’s, which put the sturdy, riveted pants style on the map and paved the way for many other brands to follow. This ‘original’ design in particular is the brand’s first-ever made and most iconic to date, proving a classic cut (high-rise, with just the right amount of give) and wash (there are two) never go out of style.

Good American

$169, goodamerican.com

“The best jeans for curvy body types are the ones that provide adequate coverage, hug all the right parts in a flattering way, and do not create a gap in the back when you sit down,” says Brooke Rounick, a fashion stylist and blogger based in Philadelphia. Among her personal picks is Good American’s Good Curve line. “The jeans are high-waisted, stretchy for comfort, and come in a range of crops/hems for adding a touch of personal flare and mixing things up,” she adds. This versatile blue wash can be paired with just about anything.

$40, maurices.com

Giving new meaning to the term athleisure, this fit-minded skinny from Maurice's boasts a special flex fiber designed to move with the body, allowing for maximum comfort with every curve. The subtly distressed wash on this pair also helps complement the legs.

Old Navy

4

$35, oldnavy.com

For bigger thighs, you’ll typically want to look for fabric that has a good amount of controlled give. “A skinny can usually provide comfortable hold, while a straight or wide leg flatters your body type,” says Rounick. Old Navy’s Rockstar line has developed a cult following from curve-loving ladies who are looking for a little extra support and stretch without having to forgo style.

5

$89, whitehouseblackmarket.com

These top-rated jeans were designed with a special sculpting fabric and wide rear pockets for highlighting—or creating the illusion of—curves. A high waist and wide rear pockets serve to further enhance its booty-boosting capabilities.

6

$128, madewell.com

Avoid having to compromise length—or overall fit due to alterations—by option for a brand that offers their bestselling fits in tall. This classic straight style from Madewell can be worn with clogs, boots, or even sneakers for everyday, and dressed up with ankle-strap sandals or pumps for proper play (wide-leg jeans are also a great way to show off long gams).

7

$70, gap.com

Similar to those who are tall, prioritizing brands that cater specifically to petites will allow those with shorter frames to enjoy the latest and greatest designs without having to settle for an awkward fit. This ‘cigarette’ offers the sleekness of a skinny, combined with the sophistication of a straight-leg (and crops at the ankle to create the illusion of added length).

nordstrom.com

$76, torrid.com

Finding a great-fitting pair of jeans for plus-size figures was once almost impossible, but the tide has been turning in recent years. Case in point: Torrid offers styles for women sized 10-30. The elastic waistband on these dark-wash jeans contours your body for a gap-proof fit every time.

9

$98, thereformation.com

Described by the brand as ‘the sustainable jeans your butt prefers,’ Reformation’s popular high and skinny jean is known and loved for a stretchy fabric that glides on easily and accentuates one’s assets. In addition to being comfortable and consciously crafted, there’s a spectrum of shades, washes and styles for a variety of aesthetics and occasions (we love the Faded Black Destroyed style for a touch of rock-and-roll edge).

10

$195, bloomingdales.com

There’s nothing like finding the perfect pair of black jeans only to watch them turn into a weird gray shade with washing over time. Save yourself the hassle by investing in a no-fade option like this beloved pair from Rag & Bone. Not only will you be able to get more mileage out of the dye, but the high-rise skinny style is perfect for pairing with all of your favorite bodysuits and beyond.

11

$99, bananarepublic.com

Rounick says those looking to transcend trends can’t go wrong with the two Cs: classic and comfort. “Look for a straight or cropped design in a standard wash, ideally in a mid or high rise, and try to keep the details simple to avoid having to keep up with rotating fads. I also love a flared leg for a somewhat retro, yet still fashion-forward feel,” she advises. This ankle jean from Banana Republic boasts a body-framing, yet still breathable shape (the brand also offers a sculpted fabric for those looking for a little added lift and definition).

12

$85, everlane.com

Especially great for giving the illusion of longer legs, the 70s bootcut gets a modern makeover in this sustainable style from Everlane, which has a near five-star rating from customers who hail its flattering, butt-hugging fit and ‘perfect flare.’ Scoop it up in one of three washes (we’re currently eyeing the Dark Blue for fall).
