Most teens find their prom dresses at the mall. But that wasn’t the case for high schooler Jessica Casanova, who wore Golden Globe-winning actress and Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez’s awards show gown.

It all started when the teen tweeted at the star after this year’s awards show, “so would love to wear your golden globes dress to prom.” Rodriguez gamely responded back that she didn’t own the Zac Posen midnight blue dress that Casanova was referring to, but she did own the black Badgley Mischka gown she wore the year before (which was also when she won the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV series). Casanova wrote back that “it would be an honor to wear it,” and the rest is history. Rodriguez let the teen borrow the dress for her big night and sent a video greeting along with it, too. Although Casanova had to return the gown after prom, Rodriguez plans to lend it out again.
