A few months ago, I noticed that even though I had a closet full of clothes, I kept reaching for the same few pieces every morning as I got dressed. (Sound familiar?) While I always felt good wearing these staples, after a while I started feeling like I was in a fashion rut. I didn’t have the time to go to physical stores or sort through thousands of items online, so I started researching different clothing subscription boxes instead—that way, all the hard work could be done for me.

After lots of research, I soon determined that Frank And Oak’s Style Plan was the monthly subscription that would give my wardrobe a much-needed refresh. I already owned several pieces from Frank And Oak and loved its ethically and sustainably produced staples. Plus, I wanted clothing that I’d actually wear every day, and the brand’s entire line is comprised of minimalist basics that go with pretty much everything.

My Experience With Frank And Oak’s Monthly Clothing Subscription Box

The first step to using the service, which the brand offered to let me try, was filling out a series of questionnaires on the website. After I filled out basic info like my age, height, and clothing sizes, I was taken to a series of fun fashion quizzes so the team of in-house stylists could figure out which pieces I’d like the most. I was asked everything from what colors I like and dislike to what other brands I wear to how I like my clothes to fit (and pretty much everything in between). The final portion of the quiz was all about budget, asking how much I’d be willing to spend on separates, dresses, shoes, and outerwear. I really appreciated this part of the quiz because the stylists knew not to suggest anything in my monthly box that was out of my budget—since, let’s be honest, there’s nothing worse than falling in love with an item you can’t afford.

Next came the fun part. Unlike other services that send a box to your door without telling you what’s inside, Frank And Oak sent me a preview and asked for my approval before the shipment went out. I must say I was thoroughly impressed with the selection—everything suited my taste and body type. In fact, the suggestions were so spot on, one of the pieces selected for me was a ribbed turtleneck that I already owned! Thanks to the preview, I was easily able to swap out that item for another blouse they thought I’d like.

Once I approved my box’s inventory, which included an oversized plaid blazer, a wrap top, and a crepe blouse, I received an email that my box was on its way. It arrived at my door in just two days, and I then had ten days to decide if I wanted to keep all of my new items or make any returns. The box came with a prepaid shipping label for that, but I ended up loving everything and kept it all.

How much does the Frank And Oak Style Plan cost?

The total cost of my monthly box with the above three pieces came out to $229, but if I were to buy the same items without being a Style Plan member, it would have cost me $263. It is worth noting that there is a $25 styling fee each month that is credited towards items you keep, but if you end up returning your entire box you won’t be refunded for the fee. If for any reason you want to skip a month, you can easily do so without being charged the styling fee.

Overall I was very pleased with my experience and would definitely recommend the monthly subscription service to anyone who doesn’t have the time or energy to shop for themselves. All the items I received were very well made but still very affordable (the pieces available in the monthly service range from $29 to $149). I also liked that I only had to pay for the items I kept‚ and the fact that Style Plan members get free shipping and discounts of up to 20 percent off each piece was a mere bonus.
