Before I started getting blonde highlights, I didn’t really consider there to be hair colors other than solids: solid brown, solid red, solid black, solid blonde. Now that I’m older, I describe the blonde hair color I want to stylists with a double-digits list of adjectives.

Luckily, I’ve been going to the same colorist for a year now so I can put my spiel to rest (thank you for dealing with me, Megara). My hair routine sounds more rigid than it is, though, and I like to switch the color plan up in subtle ways, especially as the seasons change.

Moroccanoil celebrity stylist Lorri Goddard, who’s worked notable blondes like Ashley Olsen, Charlize Theron, Reese Withersoon, and Nicole Richie–just to name a few–recently spilled the beans on the new “it” shade for summer, and you’re going to want to keep it in mind for your next salon visit.

In and interview with Byrdie, Goddard said “We're moving into a bit more of solids and softer colors." Ok, so far I’m on board.

She added, "It's a variation of nature, so layering in pigments such as mauve over a blonde to make it a golden copper. My favorite variation is soft strawberry blonde with warmer vanilla pieces." Uh oh, looks like I might have to change my blonde tune if I want to keep my highlights fresh for the summer.

I think I'm going to dabble in mauve pigment–you know, a first dip of my toes in the warmer shades of summer. What's your blonde hair shade going to look like?
