Gilt, Macy’s, Target ...
You might be surprised how many retailers have their own apps: Macy’s (www.macys.com), Gilt (www.gilt.com), Target (www.target.com), and Starbucks (www.starbucks.com), for starters. Perks to these apps include being the first to know about sales and deals, the ability to check prices and whether items are in stock and one-click buying right from your mobile device. Best Buy’s app, rated the best by this New York Times reporter, even helped him negotiate down the price of an iPod Touch, since the store honored the lower price the app had shown him!
The Catch: Some apps are spotty on the accuracy of in-store stock and prices, and some (like Bloomingdale’s) are more glorified catalogue, less a tool to help you score deals.
