Announcing Your December 2012 Book

Real Simple’s online book club makes its latest pick.

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstoreamazon.com

Hello, Bookies!

Since you can no longer, for better or for worse, see my face along with these book club updates, let me reintroduce myself: I’m Maura Fritz, one of the deputy editors of RealSimple.com and your December 2012 discussion leader. Here on the site, I oversee the beauty, fashion, and health content, write a few of the newsletters, and administrate our little book club. But I haven’t led the discussion since December 2010 (Dodie Smith’s I Capture the Castle, for those who are keeping track), so I’m really looking forward to reading with you this month. As for our pick: By a slim margin—only about 15 books over the first runner-up—it’s Robin Sloan’s intriguing Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. The book is divided into four sections; let’s read them on this schedule:

For Friday, December 7: The Bookstore (pages 1 through 122).

For Friday, December 14: The Library (pages 123 to 230).

For Friday, December 21: The Tower and Epilogue (pages 231 through the end).

And as for our new look—did you notice?—you can read more about it here, if you missed my earlier blog post about the changes we’ve made on the site. Hope you all had a very happy Thanksgiving. See you back here on December 7!

—Maura
