Ru, by Kim Thúy
Reviewer: Angela Livengood; age 31; single; Plano, Texas.
Angela's assessment: Kim Thúy and her family lived a life of relative wealth and comfort in Saigon until the Vietnam War forced them to flee to
a Malaysian refugee camp. This autobiographical novel recounts Thúy’s hard life in the camp as well as her family’s eventual
arrival in Canada. Thúy seems to be one of those rare people who can live through difficult circumstances without becoming
at all bitter. Written with stark honesty and incredible wisdom, Ru is a story of survival and triumph. I strongly recommend it.
