We all have our own ways of keeping ourselves entertained during long trips, and for Olympic swimmer Missy Franklin, it’s books. “I’m a huge reader,” says Franklin. “A few days before a trip, I have a great time researching what everyone is reading and picking the books for my flight.”

It’s not uncommon for her to finish anywhere from five to ten books while on a long international trip, so a visit to the bookstore is generally part of her pre-packing routine. “I really have to make sure that I have a good library set for me before takeoff.”

Additionally, Missy makes sure to indulge in a few films while traveling. “As crazy as it sounds, I actually really love long flights,” she says. “I get to get caught up on all of the movies I haven’t seen in the past six months.” Her favorites? “Marvel. I’m an obsessive Marvel person, so if they have Captain America, Thor, or Avengers on the flight, that’s what I’m watching.”
