My Hometown: Insiders' Guides to 14 Cities

Real Simple asked women all over the country to share what’s not to be missed about their cities

My Atlanta: Valerie Clark
Age: 42.

Occupation: Writer.

I’ve lived here for: Eight years.

I live here because: It’s warmer than New York, the cost of living is lower, and I live in a palace, not a closet!

My favorite restaurant: Atlantic Seafood Company (www.atlanticseafoodco.com).

If you go to this restaurant, be sure to order: Mussels with chipotle sauce.

My favorite tourist destination: The Georgia Aquarium (www.georgiaaquarium.org).

Best insider spot: The Greenway (www.georgiatrails.com), in Fulton County, has miles of secluded walking trails to get away from the traffic.

My favorite area: Alpharetta — it’s clean! You could eat off the sidewalk if you had to.

When you visit, don’t forget to pack: Sunglasses and an umbrella, because you never know what’s going to happen with the weather.

But leave room in your suitcase for: The very sweet and tasty Mayhaw jelly, which is good with peanut butter.

If I had to describe this city in one word, it would be: Friendly.

I tell my friends to stay at: The Intercontinental in Buckhead (www.intercontinental.com), because it’s centrally located and has a nice spa package.

They say “Virginia is for lovers.” So fill in the blank: Atlanta is for...lovers of the outdoors.
