West Point Sweet Corn Festival

festival.comSummer without corn on the cob is unimaginable, and where better to find it than Iowa? In the southeast tip of the state, just a few miles from the Mississippi River, the town of West Point has staged a sweet-corn festival since 1952. If you turn up a little early, you can witness or even participate in the Shuckfest, during which volunteers shuck 13 tons (or more) of corn. There’s no charge to attend the festival; even the corn is free no matter how much you eat. You can burn some of those carbs by signing up for the horseshoe-pitching tournament.
