Why is it that kids can amuse themselves for hours at home with an empty cardboard box, but in a restaurant, a doctor's office, or some other public setting, they are impossible to entertain? Crayons will take you only so far, which is why you need a more clever way to pass the time.

Real Simple revamped the classic bingo games (see Restaurant Bingo, pictured here) to be used in a variety of situations. Children cross off (or cover) items as they spot them ("Man wearing glasses" or "Waiter grinding pepper") to form a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line and declare victory.
