My Hometown: Insiders' Guides to 14 Cities

Real Simple asked women all over the country to share what’s not to be missed about their cities

Previous 19 of 23 Next
My New York: Linda Biel
Age: 42.

Occupation: Marketing director.

I’ve lived here for: One year.

I live here because: My job brought me to the New York area. I love the activity in the city and being able to walk everywhere.

My neighborhood: Upper West Side.

My favorite restaurant: It’s hard to decide. Probably Babbo (www.babbonyc.com).

If you go to this restaurant, be sure to order: Whatever the waiter recommends — they are true experts. I love the grilled calamari and green-market beans.

My favorite museum: The Museum of Modern Art (www.moma.org).

My favorite tourist destination: Central Park.

Overrated tourist destination: The Statue of Liberty. It’s better to see it from a distance, since you can’t go to the top anymore — just the first tower.

Best insider spot: The West 79th Street Boat Basin (212-496-2105).

When you visit, don’t forget to pack: Comfortable shoes.

But leave room in your suitcase for: “I Love NY” and Yankees T-shirts

The best way to get around: Walking or the subway.

The one thing most outsiders don’t know about this city is: How friendly everyone is.

If I had to describe this city in one word, it would be: Exciting.

They say “Virginia is for lovers.” So fill in the blank: New York is for...activity — there’s something for everyone.
