My Hometown: Insiders' Guides to 14 Cities

Real Simple asked women all over the country to share what’s not to be missed about their cities

My Miami: Donna Marie Stewart
Age: When I have to tell the truth, 45 — but it’s 35 if you have not seen my driver’s license.

Occupation: Executive director of the Greater Miami Tennis and Education Foundation.

Family members: Husband Jesse; sons John Alexander, 8, and Jesse, 10.

I’ve lived here for: Five years. We moved here from Atlanta when my boys were four and five. When they asked where we were moving, I replied, “Miami.” When they were asked where they were moving, they replied, “Mommy’s ami.”

I live here because: I can’t afford to live next door to Oprah in Santa Barbara, and my husband got transferred here to open a hotel.

My favorite restaurants: Nobu at the Shore Club hotel (www.shoreclub.com), Puerto Sagua on South Beach (700 Collins Avenue, 305-673-1115), and Café Martorano (www.cafemartorano.com; actually in Fort Lauderdale but so worth the drive).

f you go to these restaurants, be sure to order: The black cod at Nobu, the pork chops and black beans and rice at Puerto Sagua, and the meatballs at Café Martorano.

My favorite tourist destination: South Beach. It’s the only place you can wear a bikini and high heels to lunch and no one would stare.

Best insider spot: The Mandarin Oriental Miami (www.mandarinoriental.com/miami), because this hotel offers a lot of open space and private areas. The view, the rooms, the spa, and even the doormen are amazing.

My favorite areas: Golden Beach, Cocoplum, and Miami Shores, because they all offer a variety of beautiful homes that can literally make your jaw drop.

The best way to get around: Walking. Crawling is faster than driving on Ocean Drive in South Beach. But if you do choose to drive, go with a convertible Bentley, BMW, or Benz or any car with really good air-conditioning.

When you visit, don’t forget to pack: Flip-flops, tank tops, and Spanish for Dummies.

But leave room in your suitcase for: A Miami Heat jersey (our only winning team lately).

If I had to describe this city in one word, it would be: Visceral.

I tell my friends to stay at: The Delano (www.delano-hotel.com) or the Mandarin Oriental.

They say “Virginia is for lovers.” So fill in the blank: Miami is for... The beautiful people — and those who like to ogle them!
