Age: 28.
Occupation: Stay-at-home mom.
Family members: Husband Rob; sons Brady, 3, and Garrett, 1.
I’ve lived here for: Six years.
I live here because: Chicago can be whatever I need it to be. I can take the kids to the zoo during the day, then dine at Vivo (
www.vivo-chicago.com) that night. I can order in sushi or ask my neighbor if I can borrow sugar. It doesn’t get much better than that.
My favorite restaurant: Tsunami (
www.tsunamichicago.com). It’s family owned and boasts the best sushi in the city.
If you go to this restaurant, be sure to order: The flaming Dynamite appetizer, followed by the Aloha Maki. And don’t forget the chocolate tower for dessert.
My favorite museum: The Chicago Children’s Museum (
www.chichildrensmuseum.org), on Navy Pier. I can zone out for hours and know that my kids are thoroughly entertained.
My favorite tourist destination: A Cubs game at Wrigley Field (
www.chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/ballpark). We have season tickets, and I can’t even tell you who the pitchers are. Cubs games, for me, are all about catching up with friends, my husband, and my three-year-old. And eating hot dogs.
Best insider spot: Signature Lounge (
www.signatureroom.com), which is just above the Hancock Observatory. Here you can see the city lights without paying or dealing with crowds of tourists at the observatory.
My favorite area: The Southport Corridor, just north of the Southport “L” stop. This stretch is booming with restaurants, boutiques, ice cream parlors, beer gardens, and even bowling.
The one local cuisine you should try: Chicago-style (deep-dish) pizza from Giordano’s (
www.giordanos.com).
The best way to get around: Public transportation, whether it’s the “L” trains, the buses, or the trolleys. Leave the car and get a Chicago Transit Authority map.
When you visit, don’t forget to pack: Layers! Temperatures change quickly by the lake.
But leave room in your suitcase for: A tub of popcorn from the Garrett Popcorn Shop (
www.garrettpopcorn.com).
If I had to describe this city in one word, it would be: Versatile.
I tell my friends to stay at: The James Hotel (
www.jameshotels.com). It’s the quintessential urban hotel modern decor, luxury linens, world-class service, and a location in the heart of the city.
They say “Virginia is for lovers.” So fill in the blank: Chicago is for... Everyone.
