The Revelation
Carly Kuper had an inkling she was in for trouble even before she left Phoenix. “The mover who was packing up our things took one look at all my clothes and said, ‘Oh, wow!’ And not in a good way,” she says. “If a professional mover thought I had too many clothes, I probably did.” Her suspicion was confirmed in the new apartment. “One day I was picking an outfit when the closet rod, with all the clothes, fell down from the weight,” says Carly. “I was in denial. I thought I had a space issue, but I really had a stuff issue.”

What They Like
  • The 8 1/2-foot ceiling — with all that vertical space.
  • The door frame’s 19th-century moldings.
  • The hardwood floor.

  • What They Dislike
  • Some clothes are too high to reach; others drag on the floor.
  • Shoes are piled in a heap.
  • No storage for hats, scarves, and gloves.
  • No door.
