Step 2: Acclimate Plants to Less Light
  • Find shade. At least a week before the changeover, place your houseplants in a shady area to get them accustomed to reduced sunlight.


  • Find more shade. Even if your plants lived outside in indirect or filtered light, the amount they will receive inside will be considerably less. Locate some dense shade for those specimens. Keep in mind that no matter how diligent you are, the plants will probably lose leaves when they’re brought inside. It’s normal, and the shedding should taper off in two to three weeks.
