Organize Your Wallet
In your wallet, keep what you use every day: one debit card, two credit cards, your driver's license, some cash. The less you stuff in it, the less you'll have to deal with if your wallet is lost or stolen.

Another stress-saving tip: Photocopy your wallet's contents and keep the copy on file at home in case your wallet ever goes missing.

  • For your work ID and train pass: Slip them in a clear plastic sleeve tied with a ribbon, a shoelace, or a cord. You'll be able to fish them out of your purse quickly. To buy: Badge sleeves, about $5 for 10 at office-supply stores.

  • For receipts: Use a mini accordion file with an elastic strap to keep it closed. Store business, personal, and tax-related receipts in different slots. To buy: Moleskine small Memo Pocket, $11, www.moleskineus.com.

  • For warehouse cards and gift certificates: Instead of clogging up your wallet, keep these handy in a small zip pouch. To buy: Walker pouch, $11, www.walkerbags.com.
