Step 2: Drill a Pilot Hole
A pilot hole acts as a guide for a large screw or one that requires an anchor; it also helps you drive a screw without splitting the wood or cracking the wall.
  • Choose a drill bit a size smaller than the anchor (a lead or plastic casing that grips the wall to secure the screw).

  • Hold the drill perpendicular to the wall.

  • Set the clutch to the drill position.
  • Hold down the trigger until your hand senses the bit poking through the other side of the drywall.
