Will You Go Blind If You Look at a Solar Eclipse for Too Long?
Legally blind, yes, but probably not completely blind. (Legal blindness is defined as being able to make out the big E and not much more on a vision chart with the aid of glasses or contact lenses.) When you watch a solar eclipse, your pupils dilate because of the low light level. “When the eclipse ends, the sliver of sun that becomes visible is intense enough to burn your dilated pupils,” says Richard Bensinger, an ophthalmologist in Seattle.
