The Foyer Mirror
The Flaws: The hall was dark and dreary, and the photographs were
too small for the wall.
The Finds: Kate unearthed an ornate gold-and-green mirror that
she'd taken from her mother's house years ago but had never hung. "I knew it had potential," she says. A silver pitcher given to Kate's grandmother as a wedding gift from her bridesmaids (engraved
“Harriot Gruner, October 30, 1926”) was retrieved from the china cabinet in the basement.
The Fixes: The mirror was spray-painted with a single coat of white
paint, which didn't mask all the blemishes, so the mirror still
looks like an heirloom. It adds drama and much needed light to the
hall. The pitcher holds blue hydrangeas, and a white platter brightens up the table and acts as a repository for mail and keys.
