While you may be able to soldier through some bouts of discomfort, these red flags (accompanied by back pain) should send you straight to the doctor. They can point to an infection, a fracture, a tumor, or a serious neurological problem.
Weakness in one or both legs or numbness or tingling in the groin.
Fever, weight loss, or night sweats.
Trouble controlling your bowels or bladder, particularly problems urinating.
Pain that is linked to an accident or a fall.
Severe or persistent pain that lasts more than three to four weeks.
