A new or existing office will be more comfortable if you follow these guidelines:

1. Arrange the monitor so that it is directly in front of you, an arm's length away when you're seated, the screen no higher than eye level.

2. Attach a keyboard tray (available at office-supply stores) to the desk so that the keyboard is positioned only a couple of inches above your lap. This will keep your wrists relatively flat when typing.

3. Use a footrest (available at office-supply stores) to ensure proper posture and help take stress off your back.

4. If you feel even minor discomfort when working, reassess the layout of your workstation. Go to www.osha-slc.gov and click on "computer workstation" for more details.
