As it turns out, reading in low light doesn’t ruin your eyesight (sorry, Mom). So don’t worry about bulbs or wattage. “For eye comfort, where you place the light source is most important,” says Allan Rutzen, an ophthalmologist at the University of Maryland Medical Center, in Baltimore. “Adjust your lamp so you won’t see reflections bouncing off your page.” This usually means placing the light behind you, over your shoulder.
