Warranty
Standard: One year on parts, 90 days on labor.
Extended: For about $50, you add another three years to the manufacturer’s warranty.

Common Problems
The laser on a DVD (which reads the information on the disc) will eventually burn out, but usually only after thousands of hours of viewing. A new laser would cost about $125.

Is It Worth It?
No. The extended warranty costs almost as much as replacing the product. Given the pace of technological improvements and falling prices, chances are, if your DVD player breaks, you’ll be able to buy a better one for even less money.
