Performs the required annual inspection. Figures out why the smoke
goes into your family room and not up and out through the flue when
you light a fire. Charges $45 to $125 for the inspection and an
additional $80 to $200 for a cleaning, if needed.

Before You Hire One
If you have a smoke problem, go over these basic points before
calling in a chimney sweep: Is the damper open? Is the wood damp?
Try burning only a Duraflame log on the back of the rack. If it's
still smoky, you need help.
Common Pitfalls
The term chimney sweep is a misnomer of sorts. Don't assume your
chimney needs cleaning every year. It does only when the sweep
tells you so.
