  • Aspect Ratio: the ratio of a photo’s width to its height.

  • Burst Mode: a mode in which several photos are taken in rapid succession.

  • JPEG/TIFF: file formats for images; JPEG is the current standard.

  • LCD: liquid crystal display, or the screen on the back of the camera.

  • Macro: a shooting mode that allows for extreme close-ups.

  • Megapixel: a measurement that determines an image’s resolution quality. The more megapixels, the better the photo.

  • Optical Zoom: a physical lens movement; more effective than the software-based digital zoom.
