Pack multitasking products whenever possible. United Airlines flight attendant Anne Fish always carries a two-in-one shampoo-conditioner, which she doesn't use at home. "For the sake of space," she says, "I use it when I travel."
Use clear travel pots, and fill them with facial moisturizer, facial cleanser, and hairstyling products. When you get home, use up any leftovers, then refill the containers for the next trip. "You always think you need more than what you will use," says New York City hairstylist Leonard Golino.
Always use travel containers. "Just because the bottles are small doesn't always mean they are travel-safe," warns Golino. Transfer liquids into two-ounce plastic bottles with screw tops; they are virtually spillproof and will hold a week's supply. As a second barrier of protection, place the bottles in a resealable plastic bag.
Create a custom makeup palette to take with you on long trips. "Cream makeup, such as stick foundation, blush stick, and lipstick, can be sliced off and transferred into a days-of-the-week vitamin holder, which can be found at any drugstore," says makeup artist Bobbi Brown. A half-inch piece will last a few months.
Store makeup brushes in an eyeglass case, suggests Sara Gooch of Kansas City, Missouri, an auditor who used to travel up to 25 days a month. That way, you won't spend 20 minutes looking for your blush brush.
