The main ingredient of a successful dinner party isn’t an elaborate three-course spread — it’s good company.

Five years ago, one California couple, Michelle Rizzolo and Philip Wojtowicz, began hosting a Sunday potluck dinner involving simple, fresh dishes and a dozen or so friends. Explains Rizzolo, “Everyone brings to the table what they happen to have,” whether it’s the main course, a knack for entertaining children, a willingness to do dishes, or an offer to host the next gathering (the location changes each week).

The following recipes — all from the Wojtowicz's casual Sunday dinners — may well inspire your own weekly get-togethers. "Even if it’s just cheese and bread," Wojtowicz says, "it’s never not fun."
