Warranty
Standard: One to two years, parts and labor.
Extended: For $350 and up (about 10 to 15 percent of the TV’s price), you add two to three years’ coverage on parts and labor. Most plans offer in-home service, and some will lend you a rental unit if your TV is on the blink. (Some retailers may require you to buy their installation package at a cost of $300 to $350 before you’re eligible for extended coverage.)
Common Problems
The most expensive thing that can break on a plasma TV is the screen, which is typically covered under an extended warranty. Out of warranty, replacing the screen can cost $3,000 or more.
Is It Worth It?
Yes. If the screen goes, replacing it can cost as much as buying a whole new plasma TV. And with new technology like this, you can expect more frequent problems
of all kinds. Plus, the in-home service feature really pays with such a large item.
