Warranty
Standard: One to two years, parts and labor. Belt, filter, and lightbulb replacement are usually not covered.
Extended: Two- to five-year plans cost $20 to $70. The Sears plan includes belt and lightbulb replacement and also annual maintenance.

Common Problems
Belt replacement is the number one service repair, according to Willett Vacuums, in Larchmont, New York. Getting a new belt installed costs about $20, and some machines need a new belt as often as twice a year. Some more expensive machines have longer-lasting synthetic belts.

Is It Worth It?
If you’re hard on your vacuum, yes. And if you’d like to replace your belt and get your machine oiled and cleaned once a year, paying for an extended warranty that includes maintenance is a good investment.
