The Problem
A break in a plastic object that needs to withstand a certain amount of wear and tear (such as a container with a cracked lid) or an object that is flexible.

The Glue to Use
IPS Weld-On 16 Cement ($3.50 for 1.5 ounces, www.tapplastics.com) chemically welds the surfaces it touches.

How to Use It
  • Apply to both pieces and wait 15 to 30 seconds for the glue to get tacky before joining.
  • Align parts and hold together for about a minute, applying moderate pressure. The cement will set completely in 12 to 24 hours.

  • Sticking Points
  • Plastic cement is flammable and should not be used near an open flame.
  • The vapors can be harmful if inhaled in an enclosed area.

  • Cleanup
  • Wipe glue off surfaces and hands before it sets, using a damp cloth. If that doesn’t work, try nail-polish remover.
  • If the glue has set, scrape it off using a putty knife.
