Problem: Mildew
Solution: "Mildew and its odor are very difficult to remove," warns
Joseph Hallak, president of the National Cleaners Association, in
New York City. Give these tips a try.
For washables: Soak in warm water with a few capfuls of bleach or
a whitener such as Biz (e-mail biz@redoxbrands.com for store locations. For nonwashables: Lay them in the sun (a natural bleacher and
deodorizer) for several days, says Gerald Roy, a quilt conservator
in Warner, New Hampshire.
