Grids are a good idea for small spaces. In New York City, for instance, where every inch counts, apartment dwellers install grids on the wall closest to the stove or sink, then hang utensils on them. Grids, in many shapes and sizes, are sold at most house-wares stores, in steel or, for the budget minded, plastic.
Shown here: This 15.7-by-23-inch stainless steel grid by Rosle is pricey ($150) but stunning, call 302-326-4801 for store locations. Grids, which are also made of plastic, can be lifesavers in small kitchens with little counter space.
