    Also known as the African horned melon, it has a spiky orange shell that gets brighter as it ripens. The emerald green flesh tastes like cucumber. Peeled, it can be eaten as is or added to salads. Choose kiwanos with bright orange or yellow shells. Avoid ones with bruises or spots.
