    Berries with white shoulders will be less sweet than all-red fruit.

    Keep chilled and dry. Leave the caps attached until you're ready to use the berries; otherwise the fruit will shrivel. Remove the caps only after rinsing. They act like corks to keep water out. Strawberries stay fresh in the refrigerator two to three days.
    Eat a mere six berries and you've made your vitamin C quota for the day. Add another 14 and you've had almost a third of the recommended fiber.
