Remember the moment you fell out of love with your sofa? But maybe yours was a marriage of convenience and never a love match. Whatever the case, sofas are too expensive to replace (or even slipcover) on a whim or as seasonal color schemes and tastes change. Instead, remove the back cushions and replace them with three or four European squares (pillows measuring 26 by 26 inches) slipcovered in cotton. (The same trick works for chairs with loose-back cushions.) As a complement to the sofa makeover, paint a piece of flea-market furniture a bold color you love but have never had the courage to try.
