Pick your subject: Mom herself (interview friends, relatives, her first boyfriend, her current car mechanic); you and your life 1,000 miles from home (slow pan of your neatly made bed, quick glimpse of neatly rolled toothpaste); her grandchildren (playing soccer or the violin, displaying muddy hands). Keep it short (think in two- to three-minute segments), and remember to include a few scenes with a musical score. When you've got a take, rewind, plug the camera into the VCR, pop in a blank tape, and hit Record. Sign, seal, and deliver.
