I want shiny floors and baseboards without scuff marks. What tools do I need?
Perhaps the biggest innovation in floor cleaning is the removable, washable mop sleeve, in microfiber or terry cloth. When it's too dirty to use, simply toss it in the washer and replace it with a fresh sleeve. Use it on wood, vinyl, or tile. Vacuum or sweep wood floors first, then damp-mop with an all-purpose cleaner. Tackle baseboards with the Casabella All Purpose Cleaner with Parsley ($8, www.caldrea.com, 800-841-4140) and hard-to-reach spots with the Micro-fiber Flexible Duster ($30, Amazon, www.amazon.com, 888-243-9720). Sh-MOP cleaning system Starter Kit, $12.50 (includes a mop base and a pole, a scrubber pad, and one terry-cloth Sh-Wipe); pack of 12 washable Sh-Wipes, $33; Simple Clean microfiber Sh-MOP cover, $10: all at www.safehomeproducts.com, 888-607-9902. Caldrea Home Care All-Purpose Cleaner, $12 for 33.8 ounces, , 877-576-8808.
