For pillows measuring less than 18 inches square, add a splash of color with a large covered button. Larger pillows need more detail: For a 20-inch pillow, try tufting with silk flowers. To create tufts, thread an upholstery needle with upholstery thread that matches the pillow, knot one end, then stitch all the way through the stuffing, from front to back. Bring the needle back through to the front, then thread it through the shank of the button or stem of the flower and back through the pillow. Repeat until firmly attached. Dritz covered-button kit, $3.50 at fabric stores. Vintage flowers, $5 each, Tinsel Trading, 212-730-1030.
