Also called pignoli, pine nuts (pictured, second from top) are the seeds found inside certain kinds of pinecones. For a flavor twist, use them anywhere you'd use walnuts. Throw them on top of salad for a protein bonus, or add to soups and pasta. Toasting them brings out a richer, nuttier flavor. Pine nuts are highly perishable, so store them in the refrigerator or freezer.
