When selling your discards online, cruise the sites to see if you can find stuff similar to yours. That's the smartest way to get a feel for the prices that are attracting sellers. There isn't any magic formula for setting your asking price. Just apply a bit of logic. If people can buy a new VCR for $125, why would they want your four-year-old one for $100? Take it down to $60 and you might get some interest. Then again, if it's a distinctive item, such as a unique piece of furniture, rather than a run-of-the-mill appliance, you might be more aggressive in the pricing and attempt to recoup your cost. But remember: Your goal is to unload unwanted stuff. Making a deal is not the same as making a killing.
