Online travel packages can have their drawbacks:
You may not know exactly what kind of room you're getting. A site
may throw a term like "run of house" at you, which means the hotel
chooses. So forget about reserving the room in which you
honeymooned 10 years ago, or the presidential suite with balcony
and ocean view, or a room with a hot tub.
It's hard to go off the beaten track. Packages tend to be for
tried-and-true tourist destinations, so if you want a
bed-and-breakfast in Vermont or a rustic parador in Spain, you'll
probably have to contact the proprietor instead.
You usually can't use reward miles. However, you may be able to
earn reward miles for your package travel. Check with your program
to find out how to get credit.
