Some plants, such as succulents, thrive on neglect. They love to bask in the sun, and they won’t dry out, because their fleshy leaves have a built-in water supply.
What to Plant
Choose a visually varied composition of succulents with similar light and moisture requirements. In this box, small purple rosettes echo the shape of their giant green cousins. Blue spikes and green stems create contrast, as does a trailing succulent that looks like variegated ivy.
When to Water
Infrequently. Check the soil every two weeks, and reach for the watering can when the soil is completely dry.
How to Maintain
Make sure to use a fast-draining, soilless potting mix designed for succulents and cacti.
In This Box
1. Aeonium: Aeonium subplanum
2. Cape Ivy: Senecio macroglossus ‘Variegatus’
3. Echeveria: Echeveria ‘Perle von Nurnberg’
4. Black Rose Aeonium: Aeonium arboreum ‘Zwartkop’
5. Blue Chalksticks: Senecio serpens
6. Rattail: Crassula muscosa
Tip: Many succulents sprout “babies” during the growing season. Carefully lift the new plants from the soil and replant them or share them with friends.
