Ben Hoffmann

Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Ms. Nothern, fifth and sixth grades. She read us books that got her into trouble with our parents.
What makes you laugh?
Misheard song lyrics and my husband’s awful puns. If I could somehow combine the two, I’d be in stitches for hours.
What’s the one thing about your younger self that you’d like to reclaim?
Besides my thighs? The energy I was able to put into charming and entertaining people.
What are you really good at?
Learning to play the conga drums. I’m not Sheila E. yet, but I’m not bad.
Before I die, I’d like to…
See Italy, drive across the United States, and overcome my fear of horses.
What’s your favorite book?
When I’m feeling scholarly,
Song of Solomon. When I’m feeling self-indulgent,
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
John, Paul, George, or Ringo?
George...Clinton. Not a big Beatles fan, but I'd pick Ringo. Does anyone pick Ringo? Ringo deserves a bone.
The big decision I'm currently wrestling with is...
Should I finish my master’s thesis in literature (now almost nine years
overdue) or just move on? I love my job, but the degree would be useful if
I ever decide to teach again.
