An increasingly popular category of frozen foods for curious palates.
Winner: Tandoor
Chef Chicken Curry, $4
The consensus: “It tastes like it came from a restaurant.” The tender chunks of chicken breast garnered raves. The
sauce had an authentic that is, complex and spicy flavor. Rice wasn’t included, which was an issue for some testers. Others found the curry satisfying on its own.
Runner-up: Amy’s Teriyaki Bowl, $4.50
Amazingly for a frozen dinner, this vegetarian meal-in-a-bowl is almost all organic, with no trans fats. Testers found the carrots, broccoli, peppers, and water chestnuts “remarkably crisp,” the brown rice “perfectly cooked,” and the tofu “really good.” The sauce was less teriyaki, more sweet-and-sour, but good.
