The Joneses' new brick walkway is the envy of the neighborhood, but it took a small army, two weeks, and a lot of cash to build. Your own lawn, with that worn grassy patch between the front steps and the driveway, could use a little upgrading, but who needs the mayhem (or the bills)? Solution: instant wooden walkways from Mister Boardwalk (www.misterboardwalk.com). Use the good-looking roll-out paths to landscape your entire yard or just redirect foot traffic around a fragile flower bed. They're self-leveling, so they work on undulating terrain (sand, wood chips, gravel), and they're easily moved should muddy patches migrate. Just measure the length you need and specify 90- or 45-degree curves and corners wherever you want them. The price per foot ranges from $7 for a 23-inch-wide pine walkway to $33 for a 42-inch-wide walkway in ipe, a teaklike wood (shown here); curved sections cost more. You can also get a no-hammer-required patio, pool surround, or roof deck. So whip out your tape measure and size up a yard you'll be proud of.
